HMAS Adelaide SUNK!
EX-HMAS ADELAIDE
And the Central Coast HAS IT!
HMAS Adelaide Sunk off North Avoca NSW.
Well, after over a year in delays and an extra hour by the friendly dolphins the Adelaide was sunk. The Adelaide sunk beneath the waves in a little over a minute and a half. She now lies in 33m of water in an upright position.
Details about scuba Diving on the Ex HMAS adelaide will be coming through in the next couple of weeks once She has been made safe for divers.
This is a very exciting time to be a scuba diver in NSW and Australia, we have a beautiful new wreck just short run from the shore.
The Adelaide will become a Mecca for divers from both Australia and
overseas, as it takes its place with a number of other Australian naval
warships scuttled around Australia.

HMAS Adelaide (FFG 01) was the lead ship of the Adelaide class of
guided missile frigates built for the Royal Australian Navy, based on
the United States Navy's Oliver Hazard Perry class frigates. She was
built in the United States of America and commissioned into the RAN in
1980.
During her career, Adelaide was part of Australian responses or
contributions to the 1987 Fijian coups d'état, the Iraq invasion of
Kuwait, the Indonesian riots of May 1998, the War in Afghanistan, and
the United States-led invasion of Iraq. In 1997, the frigate rescued two
competitors in the 1996–97 Vendee Globe solo, round-the-world yacht
race. In 2001, a boat carrying suspected illegal immigrants was
intercepted by Adelaide; the events of this interception became the
centre of the Children overboard affair.
In 2008, Adelaide was the second ship of the class to be
decommissioned, in order to offset the cost of an upgrade to the other
four vessels. This ship was to be sunk off Avoca Beach, New South Wales
as a dive wreck on 27 March 2010, until an appeal to the Administrative
Appeals Tribunal by protest groups led to an indefinite postponement of
the scuttling.

And the Central Coast HAS IT!
Today 15-9-10 the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) has decided in favour of the Central Coast Artificial Reef Project (CCARP) to the Scuttling of the ex-HMAS Adelaide as an artificial reef of Avoca.
The Adelaide will become a Mecca for divers from both Australia and overseas, as it takes its place with a number of other Australian naval warships scuttled around Australia.
Further details about the scuttling will follow in the coming weeks.

Review
The Problem with
gloves designed for cold-water use is that they are primarily aimed at
wetsuit divers, Which I find Bizarre.
Most feature a
twin-cuff design : the inner layer has a smooth outer seal and the outer
layer has a smooth inner seal. This works well when interlaced with a
wetsuit cuff, but can't be used like this with a drysuit seal. The
solution may be to put the seal against your skin.
These 5mm neoprene
XS Scuba Dry Five gloves suffer from the same problem, but in their
defence, they are quite effective, despite the lack of seal then using a
drysuit - but a couple of thick rubber bands around the wrists made
them almost watertight. All the seams are reinforced then sealed, and
on our test dives did not let a single drop of water. After several
hour-long dives in 8°C water, they work better than most - but any
cooler and i'd opt for dry cloves.

XS Scuba Spring fin straps are a fantastic addition to your fins, I was getting tired of having to undo the adjustable plastic fin straps after every dive and then have to adjust them again before every dive so i put a pair of these fin straps on my power fins. I am very impressed with the resilience of the straps, I have been using them for over 2 years now and they still have all the strength in them as when i first put them on.
The main difference you will see with these fin straps over others is that the strap is fully stainless steel and connects to a stainless steel buckle connection, this makes the fin strap a lot stronger than the cheaper plastic connections you see out there.

XS Scuba 7' DSMB
“A must on all boat dives”.
The XS Scuba 7’ DSMB is a fantastic deployable SMB, with 50lbs (22.6Kg) of lift, giving you more lift than a standard DSMB.
I have been using this DSMB for the past two years and find it easy to use.
It is very durable being made of heavy duty nylon and has the advantage over most of being double stitched and heat seamed.
The XS Scuba DSMB is longer than standard DSMB’s.
Its 7’ long which means when fully inflated it is still over 6’ out of the water,
even when doing a deco stop.
It also has great visibility during the day and night because of the two SOLAS reflective strips running down the sides.
It has a D-ring at the top which is great for hanging slates or chem lights.
An over pressure release valve to vent excess pressure when ascending.
A one way valve (anti-spill baffle) at the bottom to stop air coming out, enabling it to remain inflated until you are back at the boat/shore, and it can be used as a conventional safety sausage or buoyancy aid at the surface by using the oral inflator.
An all round great DSMB having many benefits over other DSMB’s.

The Advantage BCD is the most comfortable BC I have ever used.
I use the Advantage for both training and personal diving.
The BCD is very comfortable and very stable both underwater and at the surface.
When I fully inflate the BCD I am usually about 20-30cm above the water.
I previously used a Seaquest Pro QD, Oceanic Excursions, and a Tigullio Hover BCD and find the Advantage BCD allows me more flexibility in the water. The back plate is very stable; I usually use an 80-100cuft cylinder and have used it with an additional 40cuft aluminium pony cylinder and its still very stable.

The XS Scuba Hooded Vest is warm. I wear it underneath my 7mm wetsuit and it keeps me warm diving in Sydney all year round. The XS Scuba hooded vest differs from normal hooded vests as it has an extra zip which runs down the side of your chest. This zipper makes it nice and easy to put the hooded vest on and take off and it also provides a really nice snug fit.
For a few facts……the hooded vest is warmer than others out there as it is made entirely from neoprene. It has a 4mm vest covering the torso and a 6mm hood. It is almost as warm as wearing another wetsuit. You can tell the guys at XS Scuba are divers themselves as they have put a soft 3mm face seal on the hooded vest, making it very comfortable around your face.
I really can’t rave about this hooded vest more. I always use it. It keeps me nice and warm and still enables me to move freely. You won’t find a better hooded vest for warmth or comfort.

This regulator has won several awards. It‘s been named, “Top Muscle Reg”, “Best Buy”, “Tester’s Choice”, and “Best Value in Regulators”. The regulator is very similar to more expensive regs out on the market but only a fraction of the cost.
I use the SeaAir Tri-Metal Regulator whenever I dive; whether teaching or personal diving. It is very easy to breathe, the bubbles are directed away from your face and I love the breathing adjustment knob, I have used the regulator down to 50m and the breathing is as easy as at 10m. I have found that the hoses on the Sea Air Regulator are more flexible than on other regs and I have never experienced any jaw fatigue
The 1st stage is very solid, 2 HP ports is all I have ever needed and 5 Low pressure ports on the swivel is more than enough, I especially like the LP port on the bottom as it is great for routing the hoses when doing twin set diving.
This regulator is an ideal purchase for the technical/professional diver or an Open water diver wanting a great regulator which will take them through to the next level of diving
